1600GTを1750CC CRキャブ4連、エンジン 動音は最高ですね、初代 TA20/RA20系・TA20/RA30系（ 970年-1977年）フォード・マスタングのヒットに倣って、1970年12月にデビューした日本初のスペシャルティーカー。同時に誕生したカリーナとは全く異なるスポーティーでスタイリッシュなデザインのボディを持ちながら、それと主要な機構（車台）を共通化する事でコストを抑え、比較的低廉な価格を実現し、斬新なスタイルと（当時としては）高い走行性能とあいまって幅広く高い人気を得た。販売戦略的にも新しい試みがなされ、3種のエンジン（1400ccOHVと、シングル/ツインキャブの2種の1600OHV）・3種のトランスミッション・ET/LT/STの3種類の外装と、8種の内装をユーザーの好みによって組み合わせる"フルチョイス"と呼ばれるシステムを採用していた。ただし、ヤマハ製の2T-G型DOHCエンジンを積んだ最上級モデルの1600GTは別格扱いで"フルチョイス"から外れ、外装・トランスミッション・内装、いずれも専用の物しか選べなかった。2ドアハードトップの標準型ボディは、リアの丸みを帯びたデザインから、俗に「ダルマ・セリカ」と呼ばれ親しまれた。 最初期型はテールライ が赤一色であることからファンの間では特に「ワンピーステール」と呼ばれており、いわゆる旧車の中でも人気が高く、高値で取引されている。キャッチコピーは「未来の国からやってきた車」「恋はセリカで」。CMソングは小林亜星の作曲である。 * 1972年8月のマイナーチ ンジではテールライトにアンバーを追加しツーピースタイプになり、燃料タンクの位置がトランク床下から後席背後に変更となり給油口の位置も左右テールランプ間からCピラーに変更された。モータースポーツのベース用として1600GTV（VはVICTORY=勝利）を追加。 * 1973年4月にはテールゲ トを備えた3ドアLB（リフトバック）が登場している。（LBの燃料タンク位置は、初期のクーペと同じトランク床下であるため給油口は左右テールランプ間のガーニッシュパネル裏にある）。従来からのクーペには2000cc（18R）搭載車を追加。LBでは1600cc/1600ccDOHC/2000cc/2000ccDOHCの計4種類が設定された。このセリカLBのテールランプはファンの間では「バナナテール」と呼ばれている。 * 1974年1月クーペのマイ ーチェンジでノーズのデザインがそれまでのLBの物に統一される。クーペに2000GT追加。1600GTのホイールキャップが廃止された。 ...
