Believe me I know wikipedia ain't gospel, but this is their story and I guess they're stickin to it:The band dedicated the song to Barbara Lewis, a 19 year-old friend of the band who was killed in 1993 by a drunk driver who was fleeing from the police after a robbery in York, Pennsylvania. Barbara had many of her organs donated including a liver to a 10 month old baby, and the song lyrics reflect how her death enabled others to continue living.

MTV Unplugged and VH1 Storytellers both yielded a fantastic archive of music - but sadly, much of it doesn't seem to be available on YouTube. Both were favorite archives of music for me. They included some great bands, pared down to the basics. Every band, no matter what style they were, was appealing to a broad range of fans. I hope these broadcasts will return!

The song was written about a woman who had a baby and because of her age, she died and the baby lived. The lyrics are really touching.

I've had the unplugged version up, but unfortunately MTV seems to remove most versions that is uploaded. Bummer, I know.
