Haven't heard much of Dietrich Fischer-dieskau but Thomas hampson is a great example. I liken a baritone to a cello...kinda.

Then you must like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, since his voice is exactly that-not the typical woofy baritonal quality, but beautiful and light on top yet robust and rich at the bottom. Thomas Hampson is another great baritone to listen to.

he is the best! I have to say I heard one german singer (Tilman Lichdi) who sings this Area maby second best! But Fritz is still the absolute no 1

The greatest lyric voice ever produced by Germany...yes he was trained in the German way and has a very authentic German sound...not very Italian, but Mozart just melts in his mouth.
