That was something I was unaware of. Thanks for the correction. :-) But the implication in the song is that the clerk would just watch, then ring up the item the shopper had appeared to select before they had arrived at the counter. That in itself would be very annoying.It seems hard to imagine the clerk actually grabbing the item and ringing it up before the shopper could protest.Either way, if something like this did happen in some dept. stores in the 90's, it is shameful.

The third line is actually:"I can't look-ah, without being watched oh naw, you RANG MY BUY before I've made up my mind." Back in the 90's it was still custom for black people to go into department stores and shop for something, and the sales clerk grabbed what they had and just rang it up fearing they would rob or shoplift!!!
