Endless Summer Chapter Twenty Eight

Nick sat on the couch in the back of the venue. She laid across it, her head in his lap. His fingers ran through her hair. It was two fifty he only had ten minutes left he wanted to wake her but she looked exhausted when he picked her up at eight this morning. Joe came into the room with Aarley on his arm. "Hey," Nick addressed both of them. "Hey," the two said in unison. "We have to go to sound check," Nick looked disappointed. "I can stay here with her and bring her out there when she wakes up," Aarley suggested hoping it would lift his spirits a little bit. He nodded and followed his brother out of the room. Aarley sat there for what seemed like an hour but was actually only ten minutes. She thought back to the days she had spent with Joe, how perfect they were for each other but why hadn't he asked her yet? She thought back to the night before. They went to a movie in Central Park. It was perfect; Joe surprised her and brought everything, including the Swedish Fish. When the movie came on she laughed hysterically because it was amazing how it was Madagascar, one of her favorites. Her laughs were soon muffled by Joe's lips. It was their second kiss and it sent chills up her spine. She turned to a stirring Juliet on the couch and became worried as she saw her tear stained face. "Juliet," "I'm not up." "Come on, let's get you cleaned up and then we can go watch the sound check." Juliet nodded and stood up. Aarley took her hand and the two walked down the bare hallways and into a bathroom. Juliet splashed her face with cool water and dried it with a paper towel. Aarley standing behind her holding her hair back. "It'll be okay, I promise Juliet. No reason to fret you can obviously tell you guys are going to be together for a while." "Or am I just another fan girl he's dating?" "How could you say that?" "I'm scared." "Don't be, come on." Three hours later the boys were on lockdown. Juliet and Aarley who had gone to the bathroom five minutes before it started were stuck sitting outside of the door listening to the boys go through their vocal exercises and warm up on guitar. They decided to go to their seats. They laughed at all the girls with OJD realizing they once acted like that. The laughed at the girls who looked like they could be long lost Jonas sisters. And they read the funny posters. They venue grew dark and the girls began to scream. The opening acts came on stage disappointing the crowd that continued to just sit patiently chanting Jonas. When the boys finally came onstage the scene hit Juliet back to the first day she met Nick. They walked towards the stage Big Rob in front and his brothers to his left. Nick ran through the songs in his head guitar chords and lyrics. They could hear the chants as soon as they hit the hallway and it was pumping them up. The stood in the right wing and made a circle and prayed. After they formed a huddle hands were put in the center and the said Jonas, camouflaged by the screams of the audience. The staff clapped and they ran to their positions. Burning Up filled the Arena. Nick wasn't excited or happy for that matter, but he couldn't let his fans down. When they finished the song Joe started talking about something and he looked to the audience. There she was smiling. He wanted to just run down off the stage but he got a better idea. He walked back to the stage mike and began talking. "Joe, let me take over," Joe looked back at his brother confused but continued to talk. "We're going to do out of this world," Joe looked at him and shrugged and motioned for him to take over. He walked to the front of the stage. "Well you know we've been to the future, year three thousand to more precise. But know it's time to take you guys out of this world. I think we need a passenger for this one guys," he could here the confusion coming from backstage; "Can we have a stool please?" A stage worker ran out a stool. "Alright now, time for the passenger Juliet, is there a Juliet Hanson in the audience?" He looked straight to Juliet who was just laughing as she played along. "I'm right here!" she yelled as she began to walk to the side aisle and up the stairs. She could feel the eyes of the crowd on her back, but they were all friendly. She climbed onto the stage and hugged all Joe and Kevin. When she reached Nick stopped and mouthed 'you're insane', she hugged him and he walked her to the stool. She sat down and he began to sing holding her hand the entire time.
