well it's optimistic but filled with dark humor, I mean lines like: Life's a piece of shit, when you look at itlife is quite absurd but death's the final wordetc, it's true Python humor, irreverent and slightly dark.

BTW....this is a great song...it have lot of meaningful phrases in a funny way....once again Monty Python used Humor trying to solve very important issues in our life...And the thing this song was about is optimism..which is a very important thing that keeps hope in your life even in your worst moments...an people Worth nothing without hope!!

People miss the point about this film it was not designed to insult JESUS or GOD but the people who follow religion and their perceptions..Also to take mickey out of religious films like BEN HUR,JESUS OF NAZARETH..
