Wow...I had always heard this album sckd, and when I heard Call of the Wild, I assumed what I heard was right. This is just a great song, with no caveats. Even Gillan's voice is good...

Deep Purple are there own worst critics. This album, although a bit overproduced, is far from shabby. As Jon Lord said of it, "We made the dreadful mistake oftrying to sound contemporary." The track "Dead Or Alive"is a hair raising rollercoaster ride about the evils of crack. In the guitar solo at the end of "Strange Ways", Blackmore goes absolutely fuckin' ballisic on his Strat. On "Black And White", Gillan slams back at the press, along with nice harmonica work, while Paicey keeps it solid.

House of Blue Light - not exactly DP's finest hour, but then RB and IG were up to their old tricks by this time.
