Brilliant playing and a fine technique, but an odd choice for an encore...and where is the beautiful middle section of the piece?

WOW!!!! You actually studied with him???? You are soooooo LUCKY!!!! Jealous, I really am. But opinions can be biased, on which performance of this piece was the best.

As good as one can do at age 11 for sure!! However, I like a faster tempo, and needs to sound a little bit crazier and unsettled, and more agitated. The best performance ever of this piece is by Vladimir Bakk. He died recently but he is also on youtube not with this piece unfortunately. He was a pupil of Zak at Moscow Conservatory, and is a fabulous musician, although unknown. Check part of his recordings out on youtube. absolutely fabulous. I studied with him for a while.

I agree as well, but just to be clear, my point is that most of these young Asian virtuosos disappear very quickly from the music world. I guess you could be right, music is just and extra-curricular activity for them, and that they value education and other things more. I am NOT saying the whole race is like robots, I am just sceptical of most young Asian pianists out there. They probably really love music, and enjoy what they do. It's just that most of them don't grow up to become pianists.

Thanks very much. I study with a former student of Mariya Yudina's, and it is definetly an honour. My improvement is quite substantial to my 3 1/2 years of playing the piano. But....I guess I don't really know the standards and education systems in the U.S., but in Canada, it is quite like you you stated. For example, trying to get into medical school is very difficult, and you basically have to have a 93+ average to even reserve a spot. I wouild say that's overachieving, wouldn't you?

I tend not to catalog music into easy/hard. I think it is because of the something I have for music,I don't know, respect? Respect for composer, music, and music lovers. If you have to catalog music, then how would you say about people who played excellently in 'easy' piece, but comparablly weakily in 'hard' piece. And how'd we define 'excellently'? ..we just can't judge like that. I just think those kids are excellent! Wish them very good luck.At last,no comment on your bias on Asian.
