The text is rewritten every time a new monarch is crowned changing the name obviously, so for a King 'Vivat Rex..' and for a Queen 'Vivat Regina..'To the poster below, favourite Parry piece is Great is the Lord although never sadly sang Blest pair of sirens

yeah I know what you mean but in most recent copies it says Vivat Elizabetha. Mogemoets says that they have royalty in their church (not the queen!) But if they are sticking to the music it would be Vivat Elizabetha and unless San Antonio is a part of the british empire they might change it. See what I mean?So are you a Parry fan?I like blest pair of sirens.

Parry lived from 1848 - 1918. Queen Elizabeth II became Queen in 1952, and was crowned in 1953. It seems unlikely that Parry would have written Elizabetha!

This may be a silly question... but who are the boys in the red suits standing in front of the choir stalls, facing the congregation? Thanks!

I'm having the same thing - as a treble, the top B flats where no problem at all, but tenor As are definitely limited to a couple a day at most! Singing Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem last year got a little tiring... I think the pitch of a Bb helps - it is so high that it sounds more acceptable if it is being strained (although it's obviously a bad thing!) than a tenor really straining to reach the top notes of his range.

Really? That's interesting, I sing the tenor part with the choir I'm in, and I struggle a bit with the top A's mainly because I'm untrained and have had no singing lessons since my voice broke. But I have to agree, the B Flats are beautiful. |
