Wow...what a beautiful voice this woman has!

Yes, I know that's how overtones are created, but if the vocal chords don't vibrate in their full length, but only at half their lenght etc, the base note is one octave higher than it would be if the chords vibrated in full lenght also.

She is my absolute favourite soprano. A nightingale! Hear her sing Caccini's Ave Maria

natural harmonics are the result of string resonating at half its length, and then half again, etc etc. i'm not sure of the physiological aspect... but i dont think thats the case..

mmh.. dont like her vibrato that much.. but apart from that.. quite good interpretation

Im throwing myself into this discussion: Isn't falsetto a result of the vocal chords vibrating in waves half their lengths, just like flageolettes on string instruments?

handsome conductor!who is he?

thanks for the note. i believe that the "falsetto" found in women is commonly called the whistle register (like what Mariah Carey has). The whistle register allows woman to sing (as I've witnessed) up to an octave and a third higher than their real voices can take them, much like male falsetto. i still dont think Sumi was using that because whistle is really airy and breathy. but thanks for the interesting tidbit!

Thanks for clarifying. Actually, "female falsetto" has always been a controversy but physiologically women can use the falsetto & they do. There have been studies done to prove this. I do respect your opinion on this though.I'm not sure if you mean that she is singing in Mezza Voce. If so, maybe you're right, it just looks like falsetto from the physiological change you can see in her throat.I was just surprised to receive a neg when I didn't mean to offend anyone that's all. It's all good :) |
