The choice of the red, white and blue for the Rangers ( and the NY Americans for that matter ) were simply a conscious choice to piggy back off of post-war nationalism in the US at the time both franchises were organized. The Amerks actually came before the Rangers but were less successful and eventually were disbanded...

I don't know if you have seen the serie or read the book about "Ronia the robber's daughter" (Ronja Rövardotter) that is made by Astrid Lindgren. Anyway, there's an old man there that has no hair. And Fredrik says: He looks like Skalle-Per. dunno what that characters name is in english, I think its Skinny-Pete. But he has no hair. He doesn't say anything about that he's fat at least. :P I wonder who wrote that translation ;P
