DISCLAIMER: Starting today, June 8, 2008, I will be removing any new comments concerning Brawl. This is an instructional video on Melee; I'd like to refrain from comments that are unrelated to the video. There will be no tolerance of Brawl vs. Melee debates. While it may seem like an abuse of OP power, I'm trying to prevent any flame wars that I have seen on other videos.It's just another tutorial video of SSBM. I did not make it. Because the video only shows the things and how to do them, I'll write the how for the tactics not in the instruction booklet here.To those of you complaining that wavedashing, L-canceling, etc. are "exploits" of the game:Exploit: "...a software bug, hack or bot that contributes to the user's prosperity in a manner not intended by the developers." (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E... was in SSB and the developers left wavedashing in after discovering it. Therefore, they intentionally put them into the game and are, thus, NOT exploits. Also, Nintendo once had a special article on Smash in one of its issues of Nintendo Power (well after a year Melee came out) and they TOLD people how to wavedash. By then, it was being used in competitive play; if they didn't want that, then they would not have advertised it to the general Nintendo Power reader.How to do the Super Wavedash: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=... Canceling - Crouching to reduce knockback, then countering with DTilt or DSmashDash Canceling / Fox Trotting - Crouching after the start-up dash animation and during the running animation (there's a difference) so that you repeatedly do the start-up dash animation. Fox's start-up dash animation is considerably faster than his running animation; hence it's called Fox Trotting.Directional Influence (DI) - Holding a direction on the joystick or C-stick to change your trajectory from an attack (see http://smashboards.com/showthr... for further details)Chain Throws - Throwing, grabbing, and then throwing the opponent in which they cannot escapeWavedashing - Jumping, then airdodging into the ground RIGHT AFTER you leave it; the result is a slide (a good wavedash makes it seem as though you slid; no bobbing)Teching - Pressing R or L before you collide into a surface to spring onto your feet / stop your motionShield Grabbing - Shielding to avoid an attack and then pressing A to grab out of the shieldPowershield - Shielding with the first few animations of the shield to reflect projectiles and block attacks, with no lag from the shieldSpiking - Self explainitory. The difference between spikes and meteor smashes is that a spike cannot be canceled by a jump or up+B (while meteor smashes can be canceled by those).L-canceling - pressing L or R while landing during an aerial BEFORE you hit the ground; reduces lagFast Falling - Smashing down in the air to fall faster; must be done after/at the peak of your jump Mini Jump / Short Hop - Tapping the jump button so that you release it before your character leaves the ground (Bowser is the easiest to short-hop with because he leaves the ground in 9/60ths of a second; therefore, you have 8/60ths of a second to press and release the jump button)EDIT: Added the link to Doraki's DI guide ( http://smashboards.com/showthr...

The point is as a stalling technique; if you are a stock ahead, just go to the very bottom of Fourside and spam Peach Bomber. If your opponent cannot walljump and has a bad vertical recovery (Bowser, DK, Roy, etc.), they'll be forced to kill themselves while attempting to kill you. That is why Fourside is banned from tournaments.

You know, the Peach Bomber is propably the most useless technique.If you are playing in a tournament, or anywhere else, you can bet that the opponent won't just stand still and wait for your recovery and comeback.

The verb is used interchangeably, but technically they are different. A meteor smash is a move that hits your opponent downward, but your opponent can jump or up+B to cancel their downward movement. A true spike cannot be canceled. There are very few spikes in Melee; the most well-known are Marth's DAir, Falco's DAir, Captain Falcon's DAir (if you hit with his nipples), and Ganondorf's down+B in the air.
