"But I honestly think its ridiculous how people still believe things that can never truly be proven,"Yes, Notions like beauty or ugliness. Laws of any kind. Notions of moral behavior. The idea that anything has value. Human rights. Animal rights. The very delusion that there is meaning of any kind to anything. All indoctrinated. Quite ridiculous.

Harris is awesome, but i have to say i like hitchens and dawkins more, they are blunt and to the point.

If I had to pick anyone of these guys that I do infact kinda like it would be Harris.

I'm agnostic, but I do believe in some kind of higher power, but there are sometimes when I think Richard Dawkins and escpecially Hitchens come off as being rather rude or abrasive. But I honestly think its ridiculous how people still believe things that can never truly be proven, I mean Jesus never wrote anything down during his 3 year ministry before being crucified, was he illiterate? That wouldn't make sense seeing how Jesus who is God incarnate and all powerful doesn't know how to write!

im a christian and im really not offended by sam harris, richard dawkins, etc... I mean, I disagree with them, but they don't offend me. I actually respect them, at least they are STRAIGHTFORWARD on what they believe. In this postmodern age, thats something refreshing. I will continue to pray for them though!!!!!

Pat Condell should be in one of these debates!

I don't think Belle was so much saying that you should believe anything because of her experiences, but rather, that you should be open to your own experiences. I may be wrong, though.

That IS probably what they meant, but it's not what they said.
venusblew (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I think what they mean is that most Christians immediately take offense to whatever you say in opposition to their faith.

Well, right off the bat, I disagree with Dennett. It is quite possible to present antagonistic ideas to a Christian without being rude. |
