The Aristocrats joke is usually told in exhaustive, (porno)graphic detail, with the nice, sweet name as the punchline. Fry & Laurie instead *imply* a lot of dirty stuff in various oblique ways, saving the filth for the very end. This is the anti-Aristocrats. :-)

You raise an interesting point there with 'American-style-hotness'. I heard that, in casting House, they insisted on a 'normal' American guy, ie NOT a sexy-hot actor. And our Hugh ain't Dr Kildare (mmmm, Richard Chamberlain, mmmm). If I were to be less than generous, I might suggest that most Hollywood actors have so much 'work' done that they look too chocolate-boxy for the role.

Well, I used to fancy the pants off him when this was a new show. In fact, I lusted after both of them (and still do) - but then, brains and sensitivity just get me going.

I think I'm familiar with the Aristocrats joke - the one with the many, many variations over decades, right? - but I can't quite see how this equates with that.... Enlighten me?

Hehe. You live in Britain, so obviously you've seen him more than me. I found out about him from Fry & Laurie, then House, then this. Having grown up on Hollywood sex scenes, I think I have a ready matrix in my brain that has difficulty processing an actor having sex unless he's American-style 'hot', you know?Bottom line: Hugh is a genius who can do it all!

Ok, fair enough - both on the line of thought matter and HL in sex scenes. I suppose I was just less surprised; he's done lots of different stuff and he's an actor. Actors do sex scenes sometimes. He certainly knows how, that's clear. :)

I sort of forgot my line of thought there - it was 2 months ago, after all. But I think just in general those sex scenes is more or less what I meant. In everything else I've seen him he has those big sad bassett eyes and a light disappoinment at life showing on his face in various degrees. And here he was quite literally pumping it!

some1ookmynick, I'm not trying to be funny or pedantic but WHAT did you not expect from Hugh Laurie?

Michael Palin! Mmmmmmm. My favourite Python when I was a kid: he had such a high strokability factor.

Tom Cruise was cute, and kind of sexy, when he was playing teenagers in fun films. I think that when he grows up, he would like to be like John Barrowman. ;)20 years ago I had a hell of a thing for Stephen Fry - it took me longer to warm to Hugh Laurie, maybe because of the built-in frown thing? But basically, I still wouldn't kick either of them out of bed now. |
