Just imagine the stories that mechanics will come up with to cover their total confusion. Just sharpen the fan blades, rotate the flywheel, flow test the radiator hoses, and re-alternate the alternator. Why the hell did I ever sell that 66 GT-350 ?????

001FJ Who said anything about efficient dynamics?I'm just pointing out that a great deal of the tech involved in the BMW product is industry standard and was not developed at BMW. Now I am not bad mouthing the company or Germans or anyone, but it is interesting that accomplishment kudos are often a matter of National pride and not reality.

What does the "no-load idle shut down", and window wipers have to do with Efficient Dynamics?

Diese Erfindung ist nicht neu. VW hatte das mal vor über 10 jahren für den Golf 3 im Programm "den Ecomatic".

Whew! - Brake electrical Regeneration, No Load Alternator, Electric Motor between engine and Transmission, electronic Steering, A/C compressor disconnect, aerodynamically controlled brake flaps, Etc.... Need to do some more reading on this one..

A Better invention would be to have the engine idling on half the cylinders all the time and charging the batteries for your electric car until you get above, like 30mph and then have the engine take over. It would take me a long time to get used to the stalled engine restart concept.

I wonder if start-up would be as instantaneous after a few years of ownership. Also, is this feature optional for the driver; id est, "on/off" switch?

You do of course realize that the "no-load idle shut down" design was patented by Ford in the 80's and that BMW shares patents too numerous to name from Mercedes Benz, Volvo(Ford), General Motors(USA) and Saab(GM). I hope this clears things up a little for you, like the window wipers designed by Duesenberg in the 20's.

Old science: 1 restart= 30seconds of unloaded idle.Fuel mapping for stoichiometric engine balance requires enrichment for restart, and stable idle, thereby consuming a larger volume of fuel than continued idle for the same period of time. |
