yes you can. First they played third wave ska, then they turned to new wave, which other than a few songs like "Pool Party", isn't as effective as their ska.

most ska bands have either broken up, lost many key members, or turned to other genres. It's sad but nothing lasts forever. Most ska bands either turned to pop-punk (Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Goldfinger) or new wave (Aquabats, No Doubt). A few turned to harder edge punk (AAA, Voodoo Glow Skulls) and some defied all stereotypes and went for something completely different like Soul (O.C. Supertones) or Progessive Rock (Rx Bandits)

The Robot does not play his saxophone on the newer releases at all. The Aquabats replaced their upbeats with palm mutes and their horn riffs with synthesizers, even before their trumpet players quit. I am not saying their new music is bad. I just think that after losing so many members and ditching the ska, the Bats are not as great as they once were. The new wave is pretty nerdy, but 8 zany guys dressed in diver outfits holding trumpets and playing zany ska music just worked so much better, IMO

You have to realize that, they lost their trumpeters, it's not them going towards other kinds of music necessarily, but them losing band members.

Actually, ska hasn't really one underground, just gotten more punky and poppy.
