Yes, it would be consistent with Brokaw's WWII themes. Are we both in agreement that the option to Stafford would be Dame Vera Lynn. Both singers embodied the times vocally. Would you agree?

I'm not sure about the movie--but you'd be interested to know (I had posted this a few mo. ago)--that this Stafford famous song was the background theme for Tom Brokaw's TV Special, 'The Greatest Generation.'

You usually hid the vintage cyanide somewhere in garage if you wanted to make it through this song alive. One of the greatest laments put to music of all time, and only Jo Stafford touch suits this song. I seem somehow remember seeing a movie starring Joseph Cotton, Ginger Rogers, and Shirley Temple in which the piece was used as a soundtrack. Am I correct? Someone?

When I was growing up I gave my grandmother a book that she filled out - it included all of her "favorites"-my grandfather died when my dad was 12. She listed this song as her favorite song in the book. Last year my dad died suddenly. This song means so much to me, it did then and it means more than ever now. He felt so sad when his mom died and thought of her with this song. Now I only hope when I'm looking at the moon he knows that I'm "seeing him".... I love you dad.

I'm in my 30's and I grew up listening to this kind of music (courtesy of my grandmother), and I'd much rather listen to music of that era instead of the mostly garbage that's passed off as music today.

Your sonorous discourse too, incites.

My soul soars in states of ecstatic sensation as I muse this wistful descant; a "Divine" utterance in sacred, sentimental yearning. How Jo transports to "far away and long ago," to realities beyond the prosaic and impeding...the foolish imbroglios of men.

I totally agree with trinbago44! I get that very same feeling listening to these songs. (and The Lettermen and other fine groups turned them into my first "make out" songs. ROFL!) ;)

Such a beautiful song. :)
