It is what is referred to as the guarded bump switch. On this older A320 with V2500 engines, this facility is frequently used. By selecting bump, an extra ring of injectors is put into the combustion chamber, which are used to increase the takeoff thrust essentailly. It is not used as often now, as it used to decrease the life of the engines severely.

I have the whole video on VHS, picked it up in 1996...and it's beginning to show it's age and wear. Excellent presentation by Alan all around.

What was that flap on the back of the thrust leaver when he advanced to TO/GA on takeoff? I've never seen that before?

What a charachter - 'Dixie'- Alan is now retired. He has recovered partially from the bad horse accident years ago.In all the years, I don't think iv'e ever known a pilot as funny as 'Dixie'He certainly is unique!!I have heard all sorts of 'humorous' stories about him from other pilots.sadly one of the old school now.Enjoy the Cortina Alan!!!
