Agreed.

"Idiot"A typical Objectivist response. Reminds me of "The Virtue of Selfishness" in which Rand spends most of her type demonizing collectivists rather than critiquing what they say. A laughable excuse for a philosophy.

So I don't think what you say of Kant's current place in philosophy is true. Those who situate themselves in a post-Wittgensteinian/Sellarsian tradition tend to consider themselves very Kantian--the myth of the given is very, very Kantian and very, very alive.
Trandofir (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yeah, people jump on Kant before ever knowing anything about him. Btw though, Rand had read Kant and Nietzsche, to say different is kind of an invalid attack that would contradicts your premise here. Also, I thought Plato was the first rationalist, not Descartes. But, nice video, very well articulated.
Mammon08 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Oh, and other then that, using "Khan!" everytime you say Kant is really annoying and a sad attempt at trying to look Meme-savy or something. That, the ridicoulous DBZ thing at the beginning of the video, and every single sentence you utter makes it impossible for me to take you seriously in the least bit.
Mammon08 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Considering that Objectivism is Rand's personal creation, citing her on the matter (or the person she entrusted to work on it with here ie Peikoff) is totally understandable. It's different from Christainity because Christianity is open to new stuff, even though you can't change the Bible. Objectivism is Objectivism. It's closed and complete.

Excellent video. 'Cropper' will not live on.

"Objectivism is a cult. Ayn Rand was an unreadably bad novelist who tried her hand at making up a religion-philosophy. The only thing she left out was the aliens, leaving her one short of L. Ron Hubbard. Only in America."Couldn't say it better myself! |
