well i have read that the ing are phazon creatures but when the lehvaitan crashed on dark aether (made by the lehvairan when it crash) that the ing somehow changed into dark based creatures. well thats my opinion

Probably incredibly strong Phazon. Since it is in the middle of the Leviathan. Maybe even phazon mutated with someithng else.

Metroid Prime and Emporer Ing were Leviathan guardians. The Leviathans themselves were basically gigantic, living phazon seeds, and were responsible for the Impact crater on Tallon, and the dimensional rift on Aether.
