Immediately following the work, there was outrage from locals and visitors alike, that in the previously sandy areas of Southbourne beach, it had become almost impossible to walk barefoot. There were large swathes of razor-sharp sharp flints and oyster shells, and there was much adverse comment in the local and national press, despite frantic efforts to hush it up and not 'spoil the season'.

Thanks for replying, I went down to Bournemouth this summer for three days, we went to see the sand and you're right, it's still as nice as it has always been :) You're also right about the "summer" weather being poor, fortunately I went during a really sunny 3 day period, including the hottest day of the year which was nice! I managed to get some bodyboarding done too, because the waves to the left of the pier were the best I've seen at Bournemouth. |
