I sorta half agree. I think it really goes into what your looking for, it's true that the verte is more complex, but I often crave the crisp alpine fresh simplicity that a la bleue offers. It also depends on the time of the day, I find the la bleue works best as an apéritif and I favor the verte as a digestif.

Fire burns off aromatics, and damages the flavor. Burning sugar just masks the taste. This practice was started quite recently as a gimmick for poor quality drink. Reasons: -mask poor flavor -attract those who want something strange/arcane...fire is interesting. -appeal to certain interests (the same reason poor brands use thujone as a selling point)Water is added to lower the proof. I prefer verte's. They're more complex and interesting. There are a couple Swiss made verte's on the market now, but they specialize in La Bleue's. I need some coloring herbs in my absinthe.
