Jimmy Preston,Big Joe Turner,Cochran,E.V.Craddock,Holley,Presley,Berry,J.L.Lewis,Richard it was all fantastic and will never die! The Beatles heard this and wanted to be just like all the other rockers. Yeah they took it to another level but that was also the technolgy and the drugs got better! My all time fav was always Ray Charles. But even if you listen to the earliest Hank Williams or the Delta blues. It's all just 12bar rythm&blues. I read once Lennon kissed J.L.Lewis foot when they met?R&R

Congratulations, you have absolutely no idea about rock'n'roll.

Totally agree. This was thought to be pretty far 'out there', but in reality it was harmless, even virtuous by todays standards. It was an innocent, fun time!I miss these times--I was just a kid but still remember it fondly.

Continued--Of course, it's reasonably appropriate (and highly inspired by Chuck Berry,I would guess) for the kind of music that it is and the audience it aims for. For the record, I always liked Gene and Ricky and their guitar players (Cliff and James) and still do. However it is a documented fact that most of the older and highly skilled players fromthe pre-rock period couldn't understand why anyone wanted to hear or perform this music.

Thanks. I knew that about Barney and Ricky. I was talking about the guitar playing on this Gene Vincent video. Not saying it's bad, just that it would probably seem particularly unchallenging and uninventive to a jazz man from the earlier swing and bop periods, like Barney Kessell.

Barney Kessel understood all this stuff and signed Ricky Nelson to Verve Records and produced (and played guitar on) Ricky's first 4 rock 'n' roll hit records. Kessel played on records with Duane Eddy and Elvis.

Yes, this was a great time in North American history (Canada and the USA). It's an era when teenagers were clean-minded and made an effort to excel at their talents, including music. It is truly sad that for so many years now rock-and-roll has lost its charm due to sex-crazed, drugged-out bums who've never worked a day to learn music. It's just a bunch of slackers who's best effort at speaking English, never mind singing or playing, is a sentence in which every second word starts with "F".
