Mao was just a figure head. Throughout the decades his "philosophy" changed from Marx to his closest advisors to his insane wife. Also, It is false to assume that China could only prosper thanks to Mao. China prospers now because of the CHINESE PEOPLE AND TECHNOLOGY. Change came from the bottom up, not the other way. Mao and his gang were only opportunists like other dictators and took credit for Chinese brilliance where they should not have.
