and the Mehdi is not a Mehdi, because he does not receive any revelation from god and he is not a messenger, how could he be, but how could anybody be a messenger of god, what would be his message, Allah said in Koran - i am translating the meaning only - (Today i completed your religion and fulfill my grace to you "muslims")verse 3 surah 5,so why we need messenger if our religion is complete, why good or things we don't know yet, what should we do we have not already be told about. again READ.

He is a prophet, but he will follow the prophet Mohammed, and his prophecy preceded the prophecy of our prophet, so its not like god has chosen new prophet, He will follow the message of prophet mohammed, he will follow the prophet mohammed, read verse 31 Surat 3,you said god has chosen Elijah as his messenger, and Elijah claimed he has a direct contact with god this is prophecy, and its prophet Mohamed who said "no Prophet after me". Jesus was before him and he wont breach Christianity.
