Kaushiki Chakrabarty - excerpt from raag Multani

Since there's been quite some response and enthusiasm for the youtube-video's and the 'Gharana radio-special' (for info on the radio-special see my weblog www.tonalties.nl ) I produced this year on ragasinger Kaushiki Chakrabarty I think publishing a very nice excerpt of Kaushiki's great concert on 15th of April this year in Amsterdam will be appreciated by all admirers of her singing. It's a 10-minute excerpt of Kaushiki's rendition of raag Multani in Amsterdam. On tabla: Subhashish Bhattacharjee, on harmonium: Vyasmurti Anandteerth Katti. Notice the big difference (and improvement) in sound compared to the sound in the earlier published video-portrait and in the radio-portrait, where I used excerpts of the same Amsterdam-concert. In this youtube-video I think the overall sound is better than in both the video-portrait and in the radio-special. I combined and mixed the recording made in the concert hall (as represented in the video-portrait of Kaushiki) with the (reference-)recording of the Theatre of the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, a recording I used in the radio-portrait. The result of this new mix (out of the two 'problematic' earlier ones) is a sound that's hopefully more satisfying on all levels. But this is probably of no concern to most of you watching this video. Hope you'll enjoy it!Copyright of this video: Pieter de Rooij, Tonal Ties Productions.

she's improvising with notes and the sound 'a' (akar) in the beginning, in the last portion she also uses words of the composition. But I guess nocojest meant he doesn't know about the kind of music... this is Hindustani classical vocal music, genre:khyal, style:Patiala-Kasur gharana.

Oh I love it! Thank you, Pieter, for posting this masterpiece here! The Indian people radiate a very special positive shining energy and these artists especially DO it! I´m trying to study ayurveda and know some Indian doctors, they are so amazing, peaceful, humble but THE BEST! And so it is with these artists...beautiful! Natali

she's actually not saying anything she's just singing notes sort of like 'do re mi.' Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
