listen i like both bands, but the similaritys are undeniable. both have depressing sounds and lyrics. both have weak, throaty vocalists. both have relatively untalented female bassists. both lead singers also play lead guitar. both use heavy big muff distortion with a marshal amp (giving them almost the same guitar sound).

dude but ive recently learned that sspu is amazing but.. they sadly rip off many good bands without people realizing it.like the album cover for carnavas is a straight rip off from a dvd by the jesus and mairy chain. and before you fuckers give two thumbs down actually go check it out

i think in a way they can sound similar...but i agree they are both completley different...and i think the pumpkins have more diversity between their records...although silversun pickups only have two records..

vocals definetly not no comparison dont care what people say. maybe some of the chord progressions they hae and the female bassist otherwise totally different band in my eyes...

OMG I am sick of people saying that they sound like Smashing Pumkins, they're both really good bands, but they sond completely different. Why does anyone say that just 'cause of the vocals?
