Went to a Morphine show in Massachusetts Sandman came over and sat with us during his break Awesome After talking a bit he says I gotta go play Thanks for coming out We said What's in the next set? He says Drive my car We said we've never heard of that one He says neither has the band He got up and said this is called "drive my car" The guys in the band looked at each other in dis-belief Sandman goes "One two three four.. and he sang "so I got in my car, drove my car,.etc improv Genius lucky us

thanks man for setting the record straight about his death. I believe it was at a festival in italy. Anyway got to see them one last time about 2 weeks prior in June 99 at the Fair at Central Square is Cambride,MA

Lockher1 has a valid point. It is well known that artists in general are unique in outlook and where that allows them to be creative it often alienates them mentally from the erst of the world and drugs certainly make a great way to dull the pain of isolation if not "cure" it. The people going on about drugs clearly miss the point of the song.

Sandman got stabbed before way before morphine. He died on stage during a concert in '99.
