Correction: fructose is not a simple carb it is a simple sugar but it poses no health risks as it has a low GI. In addition to glycemic index, glycemic load should also be factored in, those foods that pack a lot of nutrition (fruits/veg) without the calories are efficient providers.

"I'll maybe have 2 apples..I'll crash like 45 minutes after fruit. I combine nuts to slow down absorption"Apple has a glycemic index of 36. Below 55 is low range. This means absorption is low. If you "crash" after a couple apples something isn't right either mentally or physically. I think you're undergoing a placebo effect from hysteria against fruit as u are obviously very emotional (enough to distort facts, renounce food w/low glycemic index & give unhealthy advice anyway).

glycemic ratings:fructose 22honey 62maltose 105table sugar 64sucrose - 65lactose - 46glucose 100What "is not good" about large quantities of fructose that you were reading? Are you sure it wasn't high fructose corn syrup?

mitnord "What about fresh pressed orange juice?" It is difficult to overdose on such juices. There really is no data supporting a link between oranges & any disease. The culprit is manufactured high fructose corn syrup not fructose. Meat, milk, grains, even most veg, virtually all other types of food are correlated more w/diabetes than fruit. Fructose has a low glycemic index rating. Just pull up a GI chart online if u don't believe it. Look for fructose specifically (22). Skim milk is 32.

Fruit generally has a low glycemic index and is not linked w/diabetes as much as meat for instance. There is no mechanism described in the literature that links fructose w/diabetes. High fructose corn syrup is linked to diabetes though. Ancestors were eating fruit yr round during the Miocene Epoch, before ice age/seasonal fluctuations. "The last 1000 yrs" means NOTHING in terms of human evolution. Moving out of ecological niche doesn't change the digestive genes. Ancestors consumed MORE fruit.

It is inadvisable to eat oranges straight. Direct contact on teeth destroys enamel. There is nothing wrong w/juicing. u can juice the skin too. There is nothing unnatural w/eating multiple apples (grazing is the most natural way to eat for humans/all hominoidea. It doesn't matter what humans did after radiating out of Africa a mere 200 yrs ago or 2 million yrs ago. The digestive processes of ancestors did not reverse course. Humans today & ancestors digested fruit BEST out of all food sources.

It seems you are also confused about the sugar in juice. Fructose is the best simple carb. It has the lowest glycemic index of all the sugars. High fructose is split into glucose and sucrose, then measured by the dr to check blood glucose, this is why the dr isn't checking for fructose, which does not impact glucose. |
