Replay this song again; you can feel the spirit of every man on that ship race through your soul. There are songs that are written that were more than just music, this is a bell that rings in your soul and brings out the human element of compassion, an everlasting reminder of life, a memory of not just the tragedy of the event, but also a memory of ourselves when we first herd the song. This tribute is for those men that lost there lives, and a very small tribute to us that have not.

Such a haunting melody....Gordon lightfoot definately paints a picture in your minds eye of everything that happend that faitfull day! My wifes father was a State trooper who had to deliver news of the accident to one of the families. I saw the "lakes" for the first time 5 yrs ago and now know what everyone is talking about...it truly is an inland Ocean!

My favorite theory is that she punctured her bottom on a submurged rock that was 1/2 mile off the chart location.Sight glasses would have told the captain that he had water in the hold. But no way to contain the flooding. The hatches would have blown from the pressure of the air in the hold increasing.Once that happened, the front windows on the pilothouse would have gone under water, causing the radar return to disappear.
