according to Ray, PCs will pass the Turing Test in 2029. At this point (the knee of the exp. curve), Intel will be able to replace its scientists and engineers by a network of PCs. They will design the next CPU generation in 9 months (work 7/7 24h/24 no holidays no salary just electricity). This new generation will be twice as fast => Next generation in 4.5 months => then 2.25months and so on (but, say, not less than a month because of manufacturing) => singularity reached in 2033 and not 2050 !

What do I mean with that?Creating a brain doesn't take a blueprint with every area in detail. What needs to be done is creating the basic seeds and the ruleset with which they connect to each other.Even if we couldn't simulate the function of brain parts, which we can to some extend already. We could still manipulate small details of natural systems to understand the machanism, in way like we use fruit flies or knockout mouse to find out functions of genes without simulating the organism.

Something humans can't understand, huh?Well, we didn't even understand whaat light could be or if "cold" is a actual substance or element, a couple of hundred years ago.We are at least able to identify some areas of the brain and associate them with, we are still far from understanding emotion, behavior and cognition full, but we are getting closer day by day. And even if we can't solve this problem in theory, it should be far easier to reproduce it in practice.

Yeah... it doesn't emerge naturaly...ITS MAGIC!Oh sorry, we don't alow that kind of reasoning in science.[But have fun with the discovery institute, if you like to research magic beeings that created the world 6000 years ago.]Now, whats the differnce between a machine made up of atoms and a cell? What magic is working if I may ask?For a cell to work you need the electro magnetic force, no gravity, no weak, nor strong force. No magic involved.

"Captian, we can't go into warp now, the dilitium crystals inside our warpcore are in disorder, we have to restabilise the matrix first, and on top of that, the borg managed to inject a nanite virus into the bio-gel packs."Now, THAT was techno bable.[Please Star Trek fans, don't hurt me for that, its been some time and I kinda used the german words, no bad intention. live long and prosper.]So lets get to the funny part:

Feelings don't emerge naturally, you have no data or facts to back up what you are saying, if you understood what feelings were, then you could make your case, but you have no idea of what you are talking about, you are just spewing out techno-babble. If you can't understand feelings and consciousness, then you can't create machines that feel and are conscious. The most sophisticated robot today is still just a calculator and nothing more, it's as dead and stupid as a rock.
onetocome (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Wrong. Advanced techonlogy can't feel pain/pleasure, keep dreaming. Machines can't interact with their environment if they can't feel. We are not machines, we are alive, something humans can't understand. Our way of reasoning doesn't allows to understand what live is. Not even scientist can explain what does it mean to feel, no one can, it's beyond our reasoning abilities. Sure we are complex, but we are more than complex, you can never compare a machine to a living organism.

History, moreover reality teaches us that information about the way things in our universe function and interact must be discovered and learned; the accumulation of knowledge begins for us at birth and ends only at death (as Einstein teaches us).

Think before you speak. So many of you speak with absolute certainty about this and that. And don't say you need to speak with such vigor here because it maximizes your productivity in a subject area, because this isn't true.In my perception of a transcendental reality, G-d created this world for us to perfect. All possible permutations of human thought should be reached, manifested and brought/perceived into/in an external reality wherever and whenever.

You're an idiot.
