Frankie Laine became my friend in 1976 when I hade the privilege of covering his UK tour as a photographer. From that year we were permanently in touch by letter and cards. He was a great entertainer, but more than anything, recoginsed that his fans had "made" him and always had time for them. He was a lovely person and many lovely times I spent with him. I miss him, what a sad loss!

In 1953, my true love and I in high school went to a concert and heard Frankie sing I Believe from the stage. We decided to go steady after the concert but went our different ways in our college years. I Believe by Frankie Lane is a very special song for me as it brings back wonderful memories from many years ago.

Thank you for this posting. Having been born in 1962, I missed Frankie Laine's heyday. Thanks to my parents, I learned of him in the early 1970's. Frankie Laine was an unusual singer; his voice was extremely powerful yet very expressive. His rendition of "That Lucky Old Sun" shows great empathy for a man who toils for his paycheck while longing for some sort of salvation, and it always reduces me to tears. For some reason, I am glad to know that he was a fine person, as well as a fine singer.

Thank you Joopschilp for posting this. I am old enough to remember Frankie Laine at his best. If this was not his original recording, you could have fooled me. It was great.

One of my idols. I finally saw him on stage when he was in his 70s. His voice was powerful and youthful, unchanged. He was very gracious. We all tried to imitate his wonderful powerful yet gentle piercing voice.
