Hi. It's a mix. For the picking, Ronni describes it in his Metal Runs instructional tape as "picking very fast while making hammering motions with the left hand" (paraphrasing); i.e. tremolo picking. However, there are tons of open-string licks that require economy picking mixed with legato and light muting. I'll soon do a WAY better video because I didn't use right set-up on this one (tone is WAY off); was playing w/new pedal. :^D

Nice! Is the machine-gun technique just picking or is there some legato involved?

Hi Lars; that's a Hamburguitar by Bernie Hamburger, who built Ronni's 1/4-Stepper & 12-string electric. Also built for George Harrison, Carl Perkins, Howard Leese, Akira Takasaki, etc. Black guitar in my other videos is Ronni LeTekrø ESP from Japan. I also have identical guitar to 1/4-Step, but w/regular frets, plus the actual guitar Ronni used in the early version "Harley Davidson" video. Yep, I'm a fan. :^D You can check out Bernie Hamburger's site online. Excellent luthier, top-notch work.
