Breathtaking.

Milyen tökéletes és méltósággal teli muzsika, soha nem megismétlődő zsenialitás és alázat hallatszik hangról hangra.

Ah, ol' Big Hands. Will we ever see your like again? it's funny that the only background noise you can hear is people shushing each other. Bastards.

Does anyone know why this piece (and only this piece) isn't included in the CD recording of this 1986 Moscow concert?

This is one of the loveliest of all Scarlatti's sonatas, beautifully presented by a great and sensitive musician. Horowitz, using his piano, remains true to the delicacy and poignancy of the piece, with its melody passing being passed back and forth among the lines of counterpoint, with moving harmonies emerging from their juxtapositions. (I have played this for many years on both piano and harpsichord, and either way, it continues to delight.)

...a introspective piece...much like the Brahms Intermezzos op.117,118. [Was it the first selection of the program?]

We'll just have to live with that

Well don't get me wrong, I love Scarlatti, but for this particular piece the spirit of Horowitz is overwhelming the spirit of Scarlatti.

I agree with akinun. It is Horowitz who translated this piece to the piano and therefore made it so beautiful. Anyone can play the notes, but Horowitz puts the feeling into it, something that wasn't possible on the harpsichord.
