I think he still drank up until this decade. How often he drank I don't know. I'm sure not as much as he did in the 70's.

Yea Jimmy said in an interview in the mid 80's that he wasn't a drug addict anymore.

I read somewhere he stopped doing drugs in 1985..

If I had to guess, I'd say Jimmy was off most stuff on this tour. This album/tour was a comeback for him and he didn't want to screw it up I'm sure. If he was doing ANYTHING it was probably purely on a maintenance level. When I saw him at the Centrum in Mass. he dropped his guitar pic a few times, he explained he was sick, but was really flawless for the majority. When he whipped out the violin bow it was VERY cool and sounded JUST like the old days!

I've been watching/listening to this EVERYDAY since I've discovered it! Thanks for this post! It's brings back some GREAT memories of seeing Jimmy on the Outrider tour. It's strange to think this was over 20 YEARS ago! His music REALLY is timeless. Zoso's magic is timeless.

Probably my favorite tune from Outrider. I saw him on that tour at the then Worcester Centrum in '88. He played this tune and was GREAT! On the album take he creates one of his finest "Guitar Armies", by stacking and orchestrating layer after layer of guitar tracks. The tuning mentioned here is what makes the tune as good as it is, ESPECIALLY at the bridge. Jimmy really had some great ideas in Outrider, but unfortunately it wasn't that well recepted outside of Zep Heads. |
