gender bias, the results from this study can't be generalised because there are no female participants and also theres the argument of it being culturally biased (only American men)lol don't listen to this bullshit lol...i gotta write this non-sense for my psychology exam tomorrow :P....don't really care about it.

Yea right. Do you think its that easy to "fuck the group"? By probability, you probably would have conformed, so dont rail your mouth around

Fascinating experiment. I hope I can trry this experiment out in a different variation someday in grad school/..

good point, but i would say that the 'odd one out' may be to conforming because the others in the influencing group are having a massive baring on his/her actions. for example if everyone had long hair and one person cut it short, they may be doing so because of what the group is doing so therefore conforming. a bit confusing but possible.

People underestimate the power of social conformity. The general population is terrified of not fitting in, so they will conform (and sometimes even go out of their way) to not feel like the "odd man out". It doesn't make any easier that independent thought is often discouraged in social groups, and may even lead to some type of physical harm.

I believe religion as a whole works in this way. I have been told I am going to hell too many times to count. I am 21 now and I still hear it often. This isn't because I am a bad person. It is just because I am willing to say I don't believe in a religion with all my heart. This happens so often that in a group I know not to even bother voicing my opinion on religion. When I was younger I even second guessed my beliefs and tried to become religious. It is a sad thing not being who you are.

I would rather be obsrvant of what others deny or see what I see rather than what I am told I am supposed to see..
