Google Tech TalksApril, 2 2008ABSTRACTWhat's made Google search, Facebook, the iPod, and Firefox household names? They all keep interaction to a minimum. The best presentation of content is the one which requires the least number of clicks and choices. Information overload is daunting: Few clicks and choices means more people stay and use your site. Avoiding interaction seduction allows you to create interfaces that are easier to learn and faster to use with surprisingly delightful interfaces. As an example, we'll see what Google search would have looked like if the Lobby For Advancement Of Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome had got their way.Speaker: Aza RaskinAza gave his first talk on user interface at age 10 and got hooked. At 17, he was talking and consulting internationally; at 19, he coauthored a physics textbook because he was too young to buy alcohol; at 21, he started drinking alcohol and co-founded Humanized. Two years later, Aza founded Songza.com, a minimalist music search engine that had over a million song plays during it's first week of operation. After Humanized was sucked into Mozilla, Aza became Head of User Experience for Mozilla Labs. In another life, Aza has done Dark Matter research at both Tokyo University and the University of Chicago, from where he graduated with honors in math and physics. When not working (ha!) Aza enjoys playing music and punning.

As someone that is not in the "design business", for me this has been a very clear presentation, with few and well structured concepts. May be not that is "ready to use" for implementation... but I guess that is something he is (very well) paid for!

Well reduction of choices means someone else made them for you. I dont know about the general public, but I would rather have more options than less.

Nice !!! :)Very informative. It removes many obvious perceptions about UI design. The presentation is nice and easy to understand. Keep it up, Google!

The content of this speech in terms of implementation and application is pretty slim, but I think the ideas behind it are very basic and yet unintuitive, which I believe is why he has chosen to devote most of the time to the fundamentals. I also don't think there's a short answer to the question, "This is all great, but what should I be using for my project?"
nickypickysticky8 (April 16, 2008 at 4:24 am)
thats not nice.

This guy is a terrible speaking...umm..ahh...right...I think this is cool...he sounds likes he's never passed high school English. His jokes are painful, his personal life examples are boring and his 3 letter acronyms (MIA, ZIA)are just lame. Wish he got to the point more.

The new 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser seats five and comes in two-tone with a Voodoo Blue, Titanium Metallic, Black Diamond, Sun Fusion, Sandstorm or Brick body color and White top. The interior fabric color is Dark Charcoal, while the dash, center instrument panel trim and the door inserts match the body.
