It is a portrayal of a world after an alien invasion during the Edo (I think) era of Japan, which resulted in a massive political upheaval and power shift away from the Samaria to the aliens. This is NOT a story about that war, but about people having to deal with the consequence of it. Thus much hilarlty occurs where Samaria essenitally do anything to survive in this new world that was created.
