Go to Mazda6club forums and check out some of the dyno and track runs from the 4 cyl guys. Business (4cyl ATX) and Rainmens(4cyl MTX) both have decently modded 6i's and they can't even break out of the mid (MTX) to high (ATX) 7s to range for 0-60. They have had their cars dyno'd I believe. Their cars are good indicators of what to expect out of the 4 cylinder 6. I'm still awaiting headers and fluidampr crank pulley. I have 3 lightweight pulleys in my garage I am awaiting to install as well.

I live near the water, elevation less than 50ft above sea level. This run was on a flat surface, no slope. The '07-'08 6 has the same motors as previous years. The '09 6 gets a 2.5 4cyl and a 3.7 V6. You'll want to video tape your runs, you'll realize how much slower the car appears on video than in person. As mentioned before, a decently modded 6 4cyl MTX can't even hit 0-60 as fast as my mildly modded V6 ATX, they are still about 1s slower with ATX 4cyl being around 1.5-1.75s slower.

Do you live in low altitude? Im in the southern california area.. near the coast. Have heard Mazda's run differently at higher elevations and experienced that my self when I was up in Vegas this winter. Wasn't hot.. but the car felt very sluggish.. as if riding with passengers. I know the only Mazda's to get the 2.3 liter Duratec motor are the 2007+ models. And ive read the previous Mazda 2.3 motor just doesn't compare to it. Your v6 is a genuine Mazda design. Im ancy to do camera test indeed.

Usless shifting past redline.. because our powerband is almost gone by then. Headers should help me with that. Mods, I only have cold air intake and have played with the timing a bit as did your buddy. I'm also in the sedan vs. the hatch which I think is 300-350 lbs. more car than mine. I am tempted to put a camera to my dash and try and replicate what I see so we can compare. My only quirk in being ATX is my wheels take a split second to hook up because I can't just pop the clutch and fly.

Interesting. I'm looking at both of your replies, and I think having to shift from 2nd to 3rd just to get to 60 mph is what brings me up to your 0-60 times. I was previously always under the assumption the v6 was much faster than the 2.3i. But for example, as I am shifting from 2nd to 3rd I am anywhere between 63-65 MPH during my shift depending on how high I red lined my car going out of 1st. I have the ATX but with the manumatic which allows me to shift past the redline. Which is also useless.

The best 0-60 I've seen so far for a 6i is around 7.3 seconds that happened once (he typically can do no better than 7.5s). And that was a MTX with CAI, headers, exhaust, bored/optimized TB, advancing the timing of the car, lighweight flywheel, and the Air/Fuel being tuned. And I think the highest he dyno'd at was low 150HP range at the wheels.

What mods you have? Mine is an '07, 6spd. V6 stock is 212HP, but really it's low 160HP stock at the wheels for an ATX and around mid 170s for MTX. The 4cyl stock are between 156-160 HP but have dyno'd around the 130HP range at the wheels. How are you tracking your time? Stock 4cyl with an ATX does 0-60 mid to high 8s, while a MTX does it in high 7s to low 8s. What sucks about the 6spd is that you have to shift to 3rd just to hit 60.
nsaadaie (June 14, 2008 at 9:21 am)
Interesting that its actually the v6. Reason I say that is because you're basically neck and neck with me and I have the 4 cyl. Then again we aren't too far off horsepower wise either. The 2007's I have been told have improved gearing gathering a bit more performance.. what year is yours?
VirtualMirage2 (June 14, 2008 at 5:39 am)
My 6 is also one of the heavier models (around 100lbs more than a sedan V6), fully loaded GT and a 5-door hatchback.Yes, the top end revs on the 4cyl do lack (as evidenced in my 2.3l 4 cyl 3s). Unless an MTX and modded to the wall (intake, headers, exhaust, no turbo), a 4 cylinder 6i wouldn't be hitting the 0-60 times posted. As for the Mazdaspeed, I know it has only one turbo. The twin turbo I was mentioning was the rumor going around for the next Mazdaspeed6, using the new 3.7 V6.
