The reporter was trying to get him to keep talking so that he remained conscious as the rescuers tried to move the cement block without hurting him even more. They had to be careful because with all the debris it's possible that by moving one piece, others can come crashing down killing the person you're trying to rescue in the first place.

She did all she could, giving him some water and giving him an opportunity to leave a message to his family. The reporters don't have the strength or equipment to lift the concrete slabs that was trapping him...they had to wait for th rescuers....think about it!
