oii this is sad shit phill wrote this song cos his friend was drowning when he was little and phill asked a guy walkin past to save his mate but the guy fully ignored him so phill traked this guy down later on in life and asked him to come to his concert and be in the front row then when he sung this song he dedicated it too his friend who drowned and put the spotlight on the guy that just walked pass and sung it too him. if you listen to the lyrics its aktually a really sad song!!!!

Ok..I have the VH1 Classic Albums DVD about "Face Value". Phil says that in 1980 he was sitting at home "fooling around" with a new keyboard and drum machine. After tinkering around for awhile, this song started to form. He said most of the lyrics were made up "on the spot" because they "fit the mood of the music". He stated that this song has no real meaning, though some of the danger and menace it contains were probably driven by his nasty divorce from his first wife. Nothing else...period!

this song was mad for a group of people that he saw watching someone drown and never helped. they just stood there and let a person drown, this song is for the people that didn't help. he wasn't close enough to help the person himself and the people that were did nothing

don't care about all da stupid rumours and crap. just a wicked awsome song that has passion that fans can interperate for themselves and wat it means to them. i mean they evn used it 4 a cadbury ad!if u can use it in that context well... the skies the limit! :D go collins!
