Thanks for the advice, Manan1016Since a week ago I've really done some hard researching and watched alot of videos like the one above on youTube. I probably won't be getting the Asus but the Advent 4211 instead. In the UK the Advent equals if not trumps the spec of the 901 and is almost the same price. The Asus 1000 is not available yet and I don't want to wait around for it. As far as linux is concerned I'm going to have feel comfortable using linux to compile code as I am with windows.

beginner's programming in linux is a bit more difficult than in windows, (at least for me.)Compiling Code was a bit of a hassle for me, and I never figured it out in linux, whereas in Windows it was pretty easy. That may just be me, but that's the way I've always seen it.As for an optical drive, BlakeVII, I would suggest getting an external one. Another possibility could be (if you happen to have another desktop computer as well), to copy all the software from a CD onto a flash drive.

Thats a good question!Getting windows would cut down on the headaches that I imagine getting used to a new operating system would bring. But on-the- other-hand I think I'd be a fool to ignore linux for much longer as it becomes evermore popular. Besides, I'd also be the fool to miss out on the extra space as well. I can always install windows if I wanted, later, but that would be defeating the purpose. So, Linux it is then...

For programming? I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do you plan on getting a Linux flavor or Windows? Both should be good for JAVA.
BlakeVII (July 15, 2008 at 11:16 pm)
Thanks for that.I'm seriously thinking about getting an Asus. Need something small and light that I can literally carry in the same hand along with a book(s). I'm mainly going to be using it to learn how to program in java. Don't want to be lugging around a heavy laptop with the brick power supply and this seems Ideal. What do you think?

1. No! You can always download software from the internet or from your home network if you setup a drive share.2. Yes! It comes with a few USB ports that you can hook up a drive if you so wish.
