It's called adrenaline. It also happens from playing the song night in and night out. You start looking past the next note/rest to the one after and thus speed up. That's why it's so important for any group/performer to review show recordings during a tour.

I have read that acts usually speed up songs to give them more "umph" than the recorded version. It makes the songs a bit more exciting. |
