Why do pop singers think they can sing opera - and vice versa? What a shame that the call of the almighty dollar tempts artists who are stars in their own field to stray into the wrong pasture. Listen to Ricciarelli, Gheorghiu etc for La Wally, but Brightman for Lloyd Webber (some say he deserves it but that's another story!)

the fact that you dare say opera was the pop music of its time just chose your limited muscial knowledge. I'm sure the attempt to revive the classical Greek drama, part of the wider revival of antiquity characteristic of the Renaissance was very pop specially the elite circle of literate Florentine humanists who gathered as the "Camerata de' Bardi" to help write Dafne by Jacopo Peri, the earliest composition considered opera, as understood today, yes that is so pop.

What a coincidence....many people used to say the same about Mozart at his time...and the same about Schubert, Chopin....they are just pop....they look for money....In the other hand for your information...Opera was the pop music of it`s time....like Musicals now....

la opera no es vanguardista, no busca innovar, si no quiere ser criticada por hacerlo, que no cante ópera, punto y pelota.en cuanto a lo de que su voz es espectacular y la de la callas e lastimera... en fin, el otorrino limpia la cera si se tapona.
