They burn so little gas because they don't bother with "extra" metal, just enough to make it legal and functional. If you are too cheap to pay for gas and feel unsafe take the bus! I am sorry but East Germany (DDR) and the USSR are no longer around! However,the price of oil might do it!

People do NOT realize the forces involved in a crash at just 40 MPH. It's a good thing this SUV craze goes away in the USA. I guess there is an up-side to high petrol prices.

It's a road, not an arms race. We shouldn't have to buy bigger and better vehicles just so we can have the larger car and kill those who were are unlucky enough to hit. Certainly it's about the driver, but unfortunately even the best driver on Earth cannot control the other driver.

All that proves is that a crash at 60mph is going to cause some serious damage to you and the car.. at the end of the day, what are the chances of a car at 60mph hitting a car at 30mph perpendicularly and in the centre? Bloody tiny.
