I saw her play this at a neat little venue in Pittsburgh a year or so ago - the vibrato comes from the way she holds the saw between her legs. If you look closely in a few places you can see them slightly shaking. There's also a pad she uses on her legs that I suppose helps to isolate the saw & keep her legs from absorbing the vibrations. At the time she told me she'd been playing it for ~9yrs. Whatever the technical details, the result is indeed awesome!

Probably condenser mics overhead. That is too good of audio to be recorded by anything else.

Well, it used to be like that but several years ago after they began playing much larger venues it became impossible and they went to using mics. It also becomes very hard to get crowds even in smaller venues to shut up any more (yeah, that would be me picking a fight with a big stupid drunk or his yakking girlfriend and only afterward thinking I could have gotten my ass kicked). But those were the days when the crowd was quiet and it was all acoustic. Sheer magic.

This band doesn't use them. You have to shut up and listen. People do.

Wish they were nearer So Cal....I'd drive a long way to see them. Thanks for the up-date. I've never heard a saw played on such true pitch. Amazing. Gorgeous waltz .
