I agree that the German pilot had to stay and fight. I don't agree that he was the more skilled pilot. If he was a better pilot, he wouldn't be dead.

He was the more skilled pilot. It is very clear that:1. The situation was such that the rotte needed to split up. 2. His wingman was probably inexperienced or had suffured damage from the initial Mustang attack at long range. 3. The Mustangs were hungry and had a speed advantage against that particular version of Me 109. = some or all Me 109 pilots have to stay and fight.

Poor German pilot? If he were the more skilled pilot, he should have been able to get out of his situation. He knew the type of adversary he was facing and chose to fight. I unfortunate icing on the cake is the Mustang was designed by a German.

Poor German pilot. He was clearly the more skilled of the two; managing to reverse an unfavorable position twice with clever manoeuvring. All the U.S. pilot managed to do was to take advantage of two to one odds and mechanical factors. A perfect example of life not being fair.

there's good reason why gerry pilots had such high kills; they were facing so many enemies that it was very much a target rich environment. the allies had only a few gerry pilots to kill. same happened in ww1.

that was some dogfight showing how not only pilot skill BUT also ac capability counts. that gerry pilot was damn good the way he switched positions from tailed to tailing. those guys musta aged 10 years during those dogfights!

The Russians had awful planes, anyway. imo Galland was a better pilot. And then there's the tin man, Douglas Bader.

haha, you dumbass. All countries have great pilots, if you took the time to read a little, the drastic difference in kills between the top aces were because of how long they were in service, for example japan/germany were limited in manpower and their pilots were forced to go the extra mile and continue fighting, while american pilots got rotated out and sent back home to rest. |
