The scholar, Joseph Campbell, spoke of the modern day poets and artists being the source for an updated mythology. Jack Kirby was just that in his creations. Kirby art is a powder keg of dynamic expression. Much can be learned from his style. Thanks to patabongo for uploading this clip.

They don't legally need to give them anything, its just stan is such an important spokesperson for marvel that losing him is too much of a pr hit, so thats why they pay him.

Frankenstein was GREEN. If you read the Marvel Vault book, Stan gave a half page synopsis for FF but KIRBY actually created the 20 page story and characters. Same goes for X-men and everything except Spider-man(which came from a Kirby concept and Kirby drew the first cover) and Dr. Strange which is a Dr. Fate rip-off. There is Namor by Bill Everett which was created before Stan was in the business. Kirby was called the KING by Stan for a reason. He was THE BEST CREATOR. I give Stan second.

Also, as Kirby intimated, the artists were constantly submitting ideas. As editor, and a damn dood one, Stan would take these ideas and either use them as is or shape them as he liked. The Marvel Vault book shows the one page synopsis for the Fantastic Four that stan gave Jack and it is clear that Kirby was responsible for the actual story as well as the character designs. Stan instigated it that time and was a great scripter, usually better than Jack, but Kirby was the IDEA guy and creator.

Considering that comics are a visual medium, it is clear that KIRBY is the true CREATOR. It is one thing to say I want an interesting character that can do this or that, it is another to draw it and bring it to life, plus Kirby, as Stan admits, did most of the actual plotting as well.

I won't demonise Lee - but it is an absolute sin, not just a shame, that Kirby and Ditko's families get not a cent from the megamoney spinning movies Hollywood are churning out now.

Both men have claimed they created the character it's like that argument of who created The Fantastic Four Lee or Kirby? The source material was Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde as well as The Frankenstein Monster, If you look at the original grey color design of The Hulk from any reprint of issue 1 you can see The Frankenstein Monster influence.
