Actually, no. Memoirs of a Geisha didn't do too well at the movies. It was actually mediocre. AND, it's banned in China. Go figure.

Shardingan, that is false. Mizauage is NOT where a geisha sells her virginity. THAT IS A COMMON MISCONCEPTION THAT BOOK PRESENTS. Mizuage was ACTUALLY when the topknot of a maiko's hair would be cut off in a symbolic way, it is kind of like a Maiko's coming-of-age ceremony. Her virginity is NOT bid on. |
