Anyone can say that he was "treated well", but the 1936 Olympics were set to show WHITE ARYANS as the superior race. How is that for treating and an American Black man? Going into it, he was told by the nazi symbol that he was not welcome and inferior. GO JESSE! He also did a lot to change racism in America....he is amazing!

I love what Owens did and I hate Hitler and the Nazi idealism, but people do not necessarily have all the facts... in 1936, Jesse Owens would have faced less discrimination and have more freedom in Nazi Germany than he did in America...

Roosvelt ignored Owens, Hitler didn't..

LucianChick12235Is there now in China Peking prime minister or president shaking hands of winner athletes? If leader of the state want to be neutral, only possibility is shake hand of every winning anhlete. Political leaders have their chedule as the head of the state. It is impossible for them to be everywhere where athletes win and where ceremonies are. It is very unpolite towards athletes only shake hands with some winners and it is against the policy of the International Olympic Comitee.

LucianChick12235My source was Jesse Owens. Check his comment from Wikipedia. It was: "When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany. "Jesse never felt that he was discriminated any way during Berlin Olympics. Hitler did not shake personally his hand, becouse he did not shake other Olympic athletes hands (no time). Policy was handshaking with all winners, or no at all. |
